Trying Something New! DIY Pillow
So, my “learn to sew” adventure started with an idea to make small clutch bags. I love little hand bags and figured it would be a great way to get my creative juices flowing. I had dreams of a small clutch for every outfit! Besides, I had touched a sewing machine once prior to my new endeavor when I was 8 years old, so I thought I would start simple.
I didn’t have time to waste practicing stitching straight (I’m not much for patience), so my second time touching my new machine I decided to make my first clutch. It turned out great and I was loving this new crafty outlet! I made a couple more bags, for family and friends, and decided to jump into more creative sewing projects. I get bored doing the same thing over and over, so it turns out sewing is the perfect hobby me!
I started searching online and was pinning 20 ideas every time I logged on….so many possibilities! I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on practice projects, so I decided to take clothes I no longer wore and some items people donated to me, and turn them into new gems. Apparently this is called upcycle. I decided my first “upcycling” project would be a pillow cover made out of an old T-shirt. I had this great men’s shirt a friend had gave me for sewing. I loved the photos on the front, so I was saving it for the perfect project to jump out at me. A throw pillow cover it is! I used a tutorial on a DIY website I found on Pinterest.
I bought a pillow insert at a local fabric store for under $10. Here’s how my project turned out…I’m quite pleased! This pillow is so dim!
